Get to Know Greg Goodman, CCO

Posted January 20 2017 in #PeopleFirst, Get to Know...

What is your role at Choice and what do you do?

Chief Credit Officer.  Work with a team to manage the credit risk to the bank.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? If it is different than what you are doing now, what path led you here?

I wanted to be a farmer.  I get to do that in very small doses, and my job requires knowledge of the agricultural industry.

Who is your personal hero?

It’s tough to just pick one personal hero.  A hero is someone you admire, and there are many, many people that fall into that category.  If I had to narrow to a group of people, I’d pick the WWII Generation, or, as Tom Brokaw labeled them, the “Greatest Generation”.  They were children of the depression, where they learned that happiness didn’t revolve around possessions.  They sacrificed everything to win WWII and through it, built our country into the Super Power it is today, along with an explosion of industry and innovation.  They settled down to raise families and did so in a way to make sure their children had a higher standard of living than they did.  They never complained, blamed, or forgot where they came from.  Truly, their life experiences and stories would have a tough time resonating with today’s expectations.

If you could pass wisdom onto your childhood self, what would it be?

Enjoy life for the moment, instead of worrying about tomorrow.

If you stumbled across a time machine, where would you go?

I’d go back to the 1920’s.  I’m a student of history, and love to read books about our local and regional past.  My time would be spent touring all of the small towns that were not so small back in those days.  North Dakota was a different landscape back then and it would be very interesting to see how much activity was going on during that time period.

Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Early bird.

If you could live in the world of a book, tv show or movie, in what world would you chose to live and why?

Seinfeld.  It’s a TV show about nothing.  Simple.  Funny.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

Train and run in the Grandma’s (Duluth) full marathon.

What is the #1 thing on your bucket list that you have yet to accomplish?

I’d like to compete in a Tough Mudder race.  May not be #1 on the list, but I’m trying to keep a little realism here.

When you have an hour of free-time, what are you doing?

Spending time with my kids—playing sports in the yard.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality, skill or ability, what would it be?

Play the guitar.  I’m trying to learn, but I have a long way to go.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who talk about how important they are or how much money they have.

What would you choose for your last meal?

My wife’s homemade chicken BBQ pizza.

Create the soundtrack of your life (chose a song that best represents each of the following)?

Opening Credits: Theme song to “Knight Rider”

School Years: “Wheel in the Sky” by Journey

Post High School, Pre-Career: “Renegades” by X Ambassadors

Love Life: “Girl from the North Country” by Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan

Family: “Life in a Northern Town” by Little Big Town

Work: “Highway Man” by Johnny Cash with Willie Nelson

Currently: “Dirt” by Florida Georgia Line

If there was a movie made about your life, who would play you? Who would direct the movie?

Matt Damon would play me and Clint Eastwood would direct.

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Warren Buffett – I like his approach to business and there is a lot to learn from a guy like him.

Do you have any hidden talents?

No—I don’t have many talents, nor am I good at hiding things!

Tell us a little more about yourself:

Broad question…I like asking and learning about people more thank I like telling about myself.

Logging you into your business account. One moment please.

Buckle Up!
